With the New Year upon us, it’s time to look at your goals and where you want to be this time next year. We all do it, we set goals and “Life” gets in the way. I have taken the time to jot down some steps to help you on your path.
As you create your plan, figure setbacks: Understand when you are setting your goals, there are going to be setbacks. Here are some examples: Say you are looking to lose weight, you are kicking butt in the gym and you become ill, this may keep you out of the gym for a couple of days. This is just a setback. OR if you are building you network marketing team and some people quit, this is just a setback. Keep pushing forward and realize that this is just part of life.
You are the Little Engine that Could: You drive is often how you perceive yourself. Everyone has what it takes to succeed, you have to dig deep and find that “Little Engine that Could” and push through the obstacles and remember YOU CAN DO IT and YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES.
Goal Setting: Be realistic with your goal setting. If you are looking to become rich in a week, that MAY be a little out of reach. Take steps towards your ultimate goal. Take the Biggest Loser for example. The contestants weigh themselves each week, just to lose weight. Not to lose 100lbs in a week or two. Set a goal to get your first recruit or set your goal at getting 10 “No’s” a day. Those are obtainable goals and will help you reach success.
Work on these goals each day: “Taking time off” is an excuse that most people use all the time. Stay consistent and keep your eye on the prize. Work on your goals each day and you will come to you accomplishments faster and your motivation will sky-rocket.
Let people know what you are doing: This will bring accountability to what you are doing. It’s easy to quit something if you are the only one who knows about what you are doing. Our emotions and how we are worried about how people think about us, whether we like it or not, motivates us to succeed.
Get a support system: Like the step above, talk to people about what you are doing. He ones that are supporting you, keep in touch with them. It’s even better if one of your friends or family does it with you. Again this helps keep you accountable to what you are doing and will help push your towards success.
You are number One: You have needs when it comes to your goals. I know this sounds a bit selfish but, it’s not. Nobody is going to “Make” you do what is needed for success. And it is all too easy to have that “I’ll just do this for that person, then get back on track” excuse. It’s poop…you are in this for you.
Challenge yourself: If you are bored with what you are doing, you are more willing to quit. Change things up. Remember the Def. of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again with the thought of a different outcome. Every couple of weeks, change your strategies around, it will renew excitement and may increase your steps towards your goal.
Continue learning: This doesn’t mean spend all your time learning and quit doing your steps to success. This means in between your steps, gather some new information about what you are doing. It’s cool and keeps things exciting. In a few weeks, you will start to realize that you are on your way to becoming an expert in what you are doing.
Remember why you are going what you are doing: This goes deep. This is your why…why you are doing what you are doing. If you are looking to lose weight, why? Fit back in your jeans, look good for your boy/girlfriend, live longer, etc… If you are looking to become more financially free, why? Spend more time with your family, quit your job, or just take a vacation whenever you want. Click here to see my Why Article.
Reaching your goals won’t be as hard as you think, as long as you have a plan and stick to it. Follow the steps above and you will be well on your way to success.
